Industry leading services with a personal touch
SL Recycling is a family-run business quickly becoming the market leader in South Wales.
Founded in 2016 by our director, Stacey Lewis, SL Recycling began with our Ystrad Mynach site acting as a scrap yard. We purchased metals from manufacturers and quickly discovered a gap in the market; these customers wanted a one-stop shop, one reliable company that would handle all their waste and metal needs. Customers wanted one point of contact, clear paper trails, high standards of service, compliance, and most importantly, a fair price – but no one could offer it all.
SL Recycling now fulfils those wishes, presenting a comprehensive waste management service meeting the criteria of customers. Through investing over £10 million in equipment, machinery, infrastructure, vehicles and skips, and expansion of our team, our Ystard Mynach scrap yard has become a Waste Transfer Station and our newer site, a Material Recovery Facility at Pontypool, has enabled us to take on a large portfolio of customers from a variety of sectors across South Wales.
We process 500 tonnes of metal, 200 tonnes of wood, 100 tonnes of cardboard and 250 tonnes of commercial industrial waste per week!
From our humble beginnings we had aspirational views of future expansion and progression to broaden our offering while maintaining our values. We now proudly offer the total package of waste management through in-house processing, skip hire, recycling, consultancy and much more. Where before we used to broker out contracts, we now have control over costs, ensuring our customers get the best deal.
Our growth is testament to our dedication to recycling and making waste matter. We continually strive towards zero-waste-to-landfill, exploring Best Alternative Techniques and maximising recycling solutions. We currently recycle approximately 92% of all the materials we handle, focussing on diverting from landfill.
We are dedicated to providing a flexible, reliable and cost-effective waste management service with a personal touch. Combing expert industry knowledge with highly personal customer service, we put clients at the forefront of our services. We offer experienced account managers, specialist consultancy and flexible support to ensure our clients are always taken care of.

How SL Recycling treats waste.
The waste hierarchy is the foundation for the way waste should be treated. Set up through the European Union framework, it provides a guide on SL Recycling’s approach to managing waste. Under the revised Waste Framework Directive, all businesses and public bodies have to demonstrate how they have considered the waste hierarchy when disposing of waste.
Identifying ways to reduce waste initially, the ‘prevention’ step, offers the most wide-reaching benefits in terms of resource efficiency, sustainability and cost saving. There is also great potential in re-using and recycling materials, which can provide resources to the manufacturing sector and have a reduced overall environmental impact due to less water and energy usage.
A declaration is included on waste transfer or hazardous waste consignment notes to demonstrate the waste hierarchy has been followed when choosing specific waste options. This includes showing how ‘minimization’, ‘recycling’ or ‘recovery’ was considered prior to final disposal, often aided by SL Recycling waste management and consultancy.
